# Check Your Shoppable Photos on a Phone Before Black Friday

> Most holiday shoppers will tap your photos on a phone. Turn on the Image Mapper app embed, then run a five-minute phone check so every pin opens and every product can be added.

If your shoppable photos only work when you test them on a laptop, you are checking the wrong screen. Much of your Black Friday and Cyber Monday traffic will arrive on a phone. This guide covers the one setting that has to be on first, the Image Mapper app embed, and a five-minute phone check you can run before the sale.

## Part 1: How it is configured

### Step 1: Turn on the Image Mapper Core app embed

Every shoppable image depends on the **Image Mapper Core** app embed. This includes images you add in the theme editor and images you paste into a blog post. If it is off, pins will not work on the storefront.

1. Open Image Mapper in your Shopify admin. If the embed is not active on your live theme, you see a banner called **Action Required: Activate Image Mapper in your Theme**.
2. Click **Activate in Theme (1-Click)**. The theme editor opens with Image Mapper Core switched on.
3. Click **Save** in the theme editor.
4. Go back to the app and click **Verify Activation**. The banner goes away once the embed is detected.

The app only checks your live (main) theme. If you turned the embed on in a draft theme, the banner will keep showing until the live theme has it. If you duplicate your theme for Black Friday changes, check the embed on the copy before you publish it.

### Step 2: Place the image on your page

In the app, open your shoppable image and go to **Install Shoppable Image**. Under the theme customizer method, copy the Shoppable Image ID. Then, in **Online Store > Themes > Customize**, use **Add section** or **Add block**, choose the **Apps** tab, pick **Shoppable Lookbook**, set **Lookbook Format** to **Single Shoppable Image**, paste the ID and save.

If you paste a different type of ID (for example a carousel ID) while the format is still Single Shoppable Image, you may get a different image or nothing at all. Check the format first if the block looks empty.

### Step 3: Make the quickview easy to use on a small screen

In the app editor, a few settings affect what a shopper meets after tapping a pin:

- **Pin icon:** if you upload your own icon, the app recommends 30x30px.
- **Enable image carousel on quickview modal:** shows a swipeable set of the product’s images instead of one.
- **Enable background overlay:** dims the photo while the quickview is open, so the product details stand out.
- **Button text:** the left button defaults to VIEW ITEM and the right to ADD TO CART. You can change the wording.

The editor’s **Preview mode** uses placeholder data and a default font, and the app says the real modal can look slightly different. So do not stop at the preview. Check the real page, as below.

## Part 2: What shoppers see

- **Pins on the photo.** Each pin sits at the position you set as a percentage of the image, so it stays on the same spot when the image gets smaller on a phone.
- **A quickview after a pin is clicked.** For a product pin, it shows the product title, price, description, image or images, and a variant picker, plus VIEW ITEM, which links to the product page, and ADD TO CART.
- **A confirmation.** After ADD TO CART, shoppers see “Item added to cart!”. If the chosen variant is sold out, the button shows “Unavailable”.

## The five-minute phone check

1. **Use a private tab, on your phone.** Browsers keep JavaScript files for a while, and saved changes can take some time to show (the app’s own banner says so). A private tab shows the newest version.
2. **Find the photo without searching.** Open the page the way a shopper would, from the homepage or a menu link. Is the image where you expect it to be?
3. **Tap every pin.** Does each one open the right product? Are any pins too close together to tap one at a time with a thumb? If so, move one in the editor or cut the number of items on that photo.
4. **Read the quickview.** Is the title readable, is the price visible, and can you reach the buttons without scrolling sideways?
5. **Pick a variant and add to cart.** Do you see “Item added to cart!” and does the cart update? Then check a sold-out variant and confirm that “Unavailable” reads clearly.
6. **Close the quickview.** Can you close it easily and carry on browsing?
7. **Check one more phone or browser** if you have one, for example an iPhone and an Android phone.

The app has a hover option, **Show modal on mouse hover instead of click**. On a phone there is no mouse, so if you turn it on, test carefully how a tap behaves on your device before you rely on it. Leaving it off, so a click or tap opens the quickview, is the safer choice for phone traffic.

## Common fixes

- **No pins at all.** Check the Image Mapper Core embed is on and saved on the live theme, and that the Lookbook block has the right ID and format.
- **Changes do not show yet.** Wait a little while and look again in a private tab.
- **Pins too crowded.** Use fewer products per photo, or split one busy photo into two.
- **Gallery columns on a phone.** Gallery columns do not change on mobile, so a 4-column gallery shows very small tiles on a phone. Use 1 or 2 columns if you use a gallery.
